Inside Firestone

Mayor Auer's Report to the Firestone Community

Friends and Neighbors,

Spring/summer is an exciting time of year here in Firestone. We have a number of community events on the calendar and I hope to see everyone taking advantage of living in one of Colorado’s greatest towns. Visit our town website for dates/times of our many events including; movies in the park, honey festival and the grand daddy of them all – the Fourth at Firestone! I have been in contact with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra about a concert here in Firestone – more information to come. Economic development is in full swing – we are working on a number of initiatives that will bring the necessary economic velocity to Firestone. As a community, we have established a comprehensive plan that designates areas for commercial development – for example the I-25 interchange region. We continue to work with developers on bringing new tenants as the market dictates. Bringing jobs and opportunity to Firestone continues to be a top priority. The Central Park planning process is under way and we look forward to the many public meetings where citizens can offer their ideas and input. Developing this piece of Firestone will be an important addition to our growing community. As a town, we will further establish ourselves as a family friendly and forward thinking community by building energy efficient and service oriented structures amidst open space and recreation areas. Why are we moving forward with Central Park when the economy is tight? The first phase, design, is largely grant funded and therefore has a time limit for spending the grant funds. Further, the build out will be done in phases allowing us to maintain fiscal responsibility. Further, the project will employ a number of people in the building industry. In my view, this is a good way to get people back to work – doing our part to get the economy turned around while staying within our means.

HOA meetings are the many gatherings and events I have had the pleasure of attending. Thank you to all of the HOA officers and participants for stepping up and serving your neighborhoods. HOA’s can be tough business – keep up the good work. If your HOA would like me to come by for a Q/A, just let me know.

Congratulations to all of the area schools on a successful school year. Teachers, students, parents and administrators have made the 2008/09 school year a fantastic one.

Great work and ENJOY your summer!
