Firestone Elected Officials Attend St. Vrain State Park Social
Firestone was well attended during an evening social for elected officials at St. Vrain State Park on Aug. 12, 2011, with Mayor Chad Auer, Mayor Pro-Tem Paul Sorensen, Trustee Matt Holcomb and Trustee Bobbi Sindelar in attendance. Elected officials from local municipalities came together to build regional relationships and open the channels of communication and understanding between local governments. Representatives and their families from Firestone, Berthoud, Mead, Frederick, Dacono and Longmont attended, as well as Weld County Commissioner Barb Kirkmeyer, St. Vrain Valley School District Board member Mike Shiers, representatives from the Frederick Youth Commission and St. Vrain State Park Manager Kathy Sieple.
“Getting to know the person behind the elected position allows us all to communicate in a friendlier down to earth manner,” Sorensen said. “We are all servants of our respective communities and knowing each other on a more personal level I believe makes us all better communicators.”
The event was organized by Sorensen and Longmont City Council member Katie Witt, and was well received by attendees who were in favor of an annual or bi-annual event hosted by various communities.
“This would allow a better understanding of areas outside of each of our respected communities, and for each municipality to display some pride in making each event unique to their community,” Sorensen said.
Attendees to the evening social were treated to a tour of St. Vrain State Park by one of the park’s nature interpreters. Discussion included learning about the many park habitats and the history of the reclamation from mining operations.
