Firestone Approves Geokinetics Inc. License Agreement for Non-destructive Seismic Testing
The Firestone Board of Trustees approved a revocable license agreement at the Dec. 14, 2011, meeting that will allow Geokinetics Inc. to conduct non-destructive seismic testing to determine the location of subsurface mineral deposits on Town of Firestone property.
Town of Firestone Engineer David Lindsay said, “The testing is being performed to accurately determine the location and magnitude of petroleum deposits.” The testing will be performed using a vehicle mounted vibrating plate, as shown in the photo, that will apply a non-destructive vibration to the surface of the premises with data collected by a network of sensors, third photo below.
Geokinetics will be responsible for and must post a bond against any potential damage caused by the operation. The company paid the entire Town’s cost to develop and process the license agreement, and will also pay the Town almost $10,000 for the use of the public property, as marked in blue on the attached map.
Representatives from Geokinetics will begin marking locates for the sensor network and testing locations the week of Jan. 16, 2012. Cable and sensor layout should begin the last week of January or first week of February, with testing set to begin in mid-February. Testing at each sensor takes about 15 minutes, so testing in Firestone will only be a few days. Approximately a week or two after the testing is complete, Geokinetics will pick up the sensors and cable.
