Flatiron Construction Corporation Annexes into Town of Firestone

More than a year after Flatiron Construction Corporation first began talking to the Town of Firestone, the company has completed its annexation into the Town. The annexation was officially approved at the Sept. 28, Board of Trustees meeting.

Flatiron is one of the leading providers of transportation construction and civil engineering in North America. Its core competencies include major bridge, highway and rail projects. The company was founded in 1947 and opened its corporate offices along the east Interstate 25 Frontage Road in 1979. In 2010, the company opened its new corporate headquarters, a 41,664-square-foot building that can accommodate approximately 250 employees. Flatiron currently employs more than 200 people at its corporate offices, with approximately 2,000 employees across the United States and Canada.

Flatiron Project Manager Brad Amy said, “The annexation process was simplified by being able to work closely with Town staff to identify and resolve issues as we moved through the process. Both parties looked for ways to find solutions that were win/win for both Flatiron and the Town.”

Paul Driscoll, Flatiron’s chief financial officer, said being a part of Firestone will help the company work more closely with the community, while also enhancing programs such as Flatiron’s Build a Bridge program through participation in Firestone schools.

“Being in the city provides a much better forum for communication with local government, improved zoning and regulations for future new construction on campus, and improved response times for fire, police and ambulance service to our corporate headquarters,” Driscoll said.

Firestone Town Manager Wesley LaVanchy said both the Town and Flatiron strived for the best for their respective entities throughout the annexation process to make this a successful venture. “It was a pleasure to work with this caliber of professionals,” he said. “And having one of the largest contractors in America voluntarily annex into Firestone and partner with our community shows that they want to take advantage of what Firestone offers to its businesses and residents.”
