Firestone Mayor Chad Auer Appointed to Metro Mayors Caucus
Executive Committee
Firestone Mayor Chad Auer was recently appointed to the executive committee of the Metro Mayors Caucus to serve a one-year term. The nine-member executive committee is the agenda setting body for the Caucus, which was founded in 1993 and is comprised of 40 mayors from the Denver region. The goal of the Caucus is to promote cooperation, consensus and collaboration among regional issues.
Upon Auer’s appointment to mayor in 2008, he has served on the Caucus and has noticed a continual interest from the organization to include Firestone in the conversations.
“They want to know our perspective, and they want us at the table to discuss it,” Auer said. “That’s a huge honor for me, and I think it speaks to the mission of being collaborative among our communities.”
Auer said the Caucus has several items of focus in the coming year, including the ongoing efforts to advance Colorado’s global competitiveness and develop stronger relations between the United States and China. The Caucus will also work with Colorado State University, which has done a lot of work to build relationships with China on the higher education sector. This push comes from the university’s high international enrollments, specifically China.
“Any time you can strengthen relationships, it’s great for the global economy,” Auer said, adding that the Caucus hopes to increase economic and political options in China.
The Caucus will also focus on developing regional mass transit options, including FasTracks and RTD. Even though Auer said RTD will not be a part of Firestone, the plans will certainly have an effect on the community.
“As we market Firestone, having access to major Metro areas and the Denver International Airport via mass transit is a big part of the puzzle,” Auer said.
Being a part of the executive committee will keep Auer at the forefront of the conversation regarding issues that may affect Firestone and the regional area. “Overtime, it’s about building relationships that has made me a better mayor to serve our residents.”
