New Tennis Court Poured at Onorato Park
Onorato Park in Old Town Firestone saw its first improvements this year on April 24, 2012, when the concrete was poured for a new tennis court. The tennis court is part of a multi-phase improvement plan for the park.
Construction started on the court in mid-April when workers started the surveying, demolition work and bringing in fill dirt. Reinforcing steel for the slab was installed prior to the concrete pour.
Residents from Old Town made their way to the park to watch 10 trucks deliver 100 yards of concrete, many of which noting their approval of Firestone making improvements to the oldest park in the town.
For the next three weeks, the concrete will cure before contractors put down the surface coatings, install the net and benches, and install the wind screen. According to Firestone Engineer Dave Lindsay, construction on the tennis court should be completed by late May.
Other planned improvements for 2012 will include a sidewalk, a drinking fountain and landscaping.
The Parks, Trails and Recreation Advisory Board will be reviewing the master plan for Onorato Park for any future improvements and will make recommendations to the Board of Trustees for their budget process.
