First Firestone Movie in the Park Brings Crowd to Settlers Park

The Town of Firestone kicked off its Movie in the Park summer series on June 1, 2012, with about 400 people for an evening of cinema under the stars at Settlers Park. Movie attendees watched Kung Fu Panda 2 on the big screen, and also enjoyed fresh popcorn from the Town and beverages from co-sponsor Tutor Doctor.

Movie night was also enhanced for kids who decorated the sidewalks at Settlers Park with chalk to create artistic drawings. As part of the new Firestone Cultural Committee, one of the group’s goals is to bring more art and culture into all Firestone events. Movie attendees are encouraged to bring their own chalk to upcoming movies.

There are four other opportunities to enjoy movies in the park this summer in Firestone. Upcoming movies include:
June 15 - Mary Poppins, Hart Park, 467 Jackson Ave.
*Special Family Fitness Night
June 29 - Puss in Boots, Settlers Park, 11445 Ebony St.
July 13 - The Wizard of Oz, Settlers Park, 11445 Ebony St.
July 27 - Happy Feet 2, Hart Park, 467 Jackson Ave.
*Happy Feet Fitness in the Park Night

Movies begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of movies under the stars. Remember though, no alcoholic beverages are allowed in Town parks. The Town of Firestone provides free popcorn and co-sponsors will provide bottled water for movie attendees.

Two of the movies will also include special fitness nights in the park before the movie begins. On June 15, the Carbon Valley Recreation District will sponsor a family fitness night from 6 to 8 p.m. Then on July 27, Anytime Fitness in Firestone will sponsor Happy Feet Fitness in the Park from 7 to 8 p.m. to teach an evening of Bootcamp and Zumba for kids and adults.
