Wizard of Oz Classic Enjoyed by Hundreds at Movie in the Park

The Wizard of Oz classic brought out about 350 people to Settlers Park on July 13, 2012, for the fourth movie in Firestone's Movie in the Park series. Volunteers popped up numerous batches of popcorn for attendees, and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. provided beverages for guests as the co-sponsor for the evening.

Movie night was also enhanced for kids who decorated the sidewalks at Settlers Park with chalk to create artistic drawings. As part of the new Firestone Cultural Committee, one of the group’s goals is to bring more art and culture into all Firestone events.

The final movie in the park this summer is set for July 27 at Hart Park for the viewing of Happy Feet 2. Prior to the start of the movie, Anytime Fitness of Firestone will present Happy Feet Fitness in the Park from 7 to 8 p.m. to teach adults and kicks Zumba and Bootcamp. Co-sponsor Playing it Forward Youth Sports Foundation will sponsor a donation drive. Bring your childrens’ lightly-used organized sports gear to the movieand get entered to win a basketball signed by Denver Nuggets star Aaron Aflallo after the movie!

Movies begin at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an evening of movies under the stars. Remember though, no alcoholic beverages are allowed in Town parks.
