Firestone, Carbon Valley Recreation District Team Up for Fitness and
Movie in the Park

The second Movie in the Park for Firestone on June 15, 2012, in Hart Park was packed with all kinds of fun for everyone, including fitness, popcorn, beverages and a movie. Movie attendees watched Mary Poppins on the big screen, and also enjoyed fresh popcorn from the Town and beverages from co-sponsor Going Places Travel.

For two hours before the start of the movie, the Carbon Valley Recreation District set up fun fitness activities in the park for movie attendees to enjoy while waiting for the movie to start. Tying into Mary Poppins, the District planned activities to play off the movie, including a Chalk Walk, Chimney Sweep, Umbrella Balance Beam Walk, Spoonful of Sugar Spoon Races, Sack Races and Tug-O-War.

Stephanie Munroe, fitness director for the District, estimated they had about 40 people participate in the fitness activites. "As a member of the community and advocate of active family fun, it was heart warming to see not only children, but adults participating all with smiles on their faces," she said.

There are three other opportunities to enjoy movies in the park this summer in Firestone. Upcoming movies include:
June 29 - Puss in Boots, Settlers Park, 11445 Ebony St.
July 13 - The Wizard of Oz, Settlers Park, 11445 Ebony St.
July 27 - Happy Feet 2, Hart Park, 467 Jackson Ave.
