The Town of Firestone enjoys the opportunity to build relationships within the community by hosting numerous events throughout the year. These events not
only give businesses, organizations and nonprofits a chance to market their services, but they can promote a sense of community that brings together residents and visitors to enjoy what Firestone has come to be. Events throughout the year include the 4th at Firestone, Movies & Music in the Park, the Holiday Festival, Special Olympics, the Full Moon 5K & Festival and more! There are also opportunities for organizations to get involved in the Adopt-A-Place program or volunteer for the events.

The following community special events are not organized by the Town of Firestone, but are promoted as community events.

11th Annual 4th at Firestone

July 4, 2013, Miners Park, 226 Grant Ave.
Parade - 10 a.m.
4th at Firestone Main Event - 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Evening Concert in the Park - 7:30-10 p.m.
Fireworks at Saddleback Golf Club - 9:30 p.m.

The 4th at Firestone has become not only Firestone’s premier annual community event, but also a regional attraction to celebrate America’s birthday. This event has continued to increase in participation, drawing thousands of people to Firestone for family-oriented fun and entertainment throughout the day.

The day will begin with a dynamic parade that weaves its way through old town Firestone to Miners Park for the celebration. Floats, decorated vehicle displays, marching bands, classic cars, motorcycles and more will compile a parade lineup that residents and festival attendees will not want to miss. This is the perfect time for people to show their American pride by lining the streets in celebration. The festival will include a showcase of business, children, nonprofit and art vendors; delicious food items; children’s activities including a climbing wall, inflatable jumps, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting; caricature artist; mini golf; horseshoes; a carnival; presentation of the colors; and servicemen recognition.

This year’s event will include a larger Classic Car Show lining the Firestone Trail welcoming people to the event where classic cars and hot rods can be viewed in detail. Outstanding live entertainment throughout the day will include the blazing intensity of the Rebecca Folsom Band, rock, country and bluegrass sounds from Coral Creek, and a souped-up mix of blues, soul and rock from Chris Daniels & the Kings. Festival attendees will also be able to come back out to the park in the evening for a headliner concert in the park with Buckstein and dance to the group’s dynamic force of country music before the night sky is lit with a spectacular fireworks display.

SPONSORSHIP - Supporting Firestone community events through a sponsorship not only allows businesses and organizations to gain regional visibility, but it strengthens community relations and allows the event to flourish. Food vendor specialties will also be limited and determined by the Communications & Community Outreach Coordinator, such as no more than one kettle corn vendor. Please note that the Town of Firestone does offer up to 2,000 free snow cones to attendees. Please call prior to filling out your application to verify available food vendor openings. Food vendors must submit a Weld County Public Health Temporary Food Event Application (downloadable from Town of Firestone website or at Firestone Town Hall), a copy of the vendor’s Colorado Retail Food Establishment License (or tax-exempt status form) and a Certificate of Insurance listing the Town of Firestone as Additionally Insured.

VOLUNTEERS - Volunteering offers a great deal of satisfaction, and a chance to give back to the community. For the 4th at Firestone, volunteers are needed for pre-event poster distribution, setup and decorating, volunteer coordinator, vendor set up and support, snow cone operation, Town booth, monitoring inflatables, parking attendants, car show monitor, parade lineup, parade pace keepers, parade and car show judges, clean up and more.

Adopt-A-Place Program

Started in 2005, the Adopt-A-Place Program began when the Town of Firestone and its residents recognized the need to combat litter problems in the community. Throughout the years, many local organizations, businesses and individuals have come together to help keep Firestone a beautiful community to live and work in, and enjoy.

By participating in the Adopt-A-Place program, community groups, businesses and individuals help the Town of Firestone reallocate funds, time and manpower to other much-needed programs and projects, including park construction, upgrades and maintenance, trail-improvement projects and more.

Advantages of the Adopt-A-Place Program:

The Town of Firestone hosts an Annual Cleanup Day and Food Drive each spring to allow Firestone residents to bring all unwanted household debris to be disposed of through a community-wide effort. In addition to the cleanup, the Town of Firestone also welcomes residents to donate non-perishable food items as part of a food drive to benefit local food banks. Once items are disposed of, residents are welcome to join Town staff and elected officials for a free pancake breakfast and a hot dog or hamburger lunch.

Household items accepted in the cleanup include bicycles, cabinets, chain link fences, computer monitors & towers, concrete, doors, electronics, furniture, hot tubs, lumber, mattresses/box springs, shrubs, steel, stoves, TV’s, tree branches, washers/dryers, water heaters, yard equipment, yard waste and misc. household debris. Residents will be asked to separate tree limbs, wood and steel when unloading. Household hazardous waste will also be accepted during the day, which includes flammable materials, latex and related materials, oil, antifreeze and other car products, toxic material, batteries, aerosol, acids, bases, oxidizers and unknowns. However, please note that all materials must be in a clearly marked container and properly packaged to avoid leakage. Items not accepted include refrigerators, freezers and 55-gallon drums.

Firestone residents will be asked to provide proof of residency, either with a water bill statement or other proof of address. Town staff will be available to help unload items for those people who are unable to do so themselves. For more information, call 303-833-3544.

Full Moon 5k & Festival - Raising Colon Cancer Awareness

The Town of Firestone is excited to join Anytime Fitness-Firestone and the Longmont United Hospital Foundation to host the 2nd Annual Full Moon 5k & Festival to raise money for cancer awareness and screening.

Start your day by running or walking in the 5k, participate in the Fun Run, and then stay to enjoy great food, music, entertainment and activities at the Firestone Regional
Sports Complex.

RACE DETAILS
The 5k utilizes the Firestone Trail system and is a certified course with the USA Track and Field Association with timing by Colorado Race Timing.

14th Annual Halloween Safe Night

Goody bags, games and a costume parade will allow every little ghost and goblin to enjoy Halloween in a safe environment with the Firestone Police Department. Each year on Halloween the Police Department hosts this event which includes carnival style games to challenge every age, a costume parade, popcorn and treats, safety handouts and a good bag for attendees.

Movies & Music in the Park 2013

Each year, the Town of Firestone offers movie-lovers the Movies in the Park series. New in 2013 will be the Movies & Music in the Park series for people to enjoy three summer Movies in the Park and two summer Music in the Park performances. This annual tradition is a great time to invite your neighbors, family and friends to enjoy a movie on the big screen or dance to music in the park. The free series runs Friday nights from June through August at various parks in Firestone.

Come early and bring a picnic dinner. And don't forget to bring blankets or low-slung chairs to get comfortable. Just a reminder though, there is no alcohol allowed in Town parks.

Movies in the Park: Movie attendees will enjoy free popcorn from the Town of Firestone & beverages provided by our Sponsors! Movies start at dusk, approximately 8:30 p.m.

Music in the Park: Music attendees will enjoy free popcorn from the Town of Firestone & beverages provided by our Sponsors! Concerts start at 7 p.m.

The Firestone Police Department presents an annual Meet
and Greet each March. This public forum allows community members the opportunity to meet their local and county government officials to discuss concerns and issues relevant to the local region. Community members are able to utilize this informal and informational evening to visit with government officials and the Firestone Police Department, while enjoying hot dogs, chips, chili and soft drinks.

Santa Cops 2013

Each year the Firestone, Frederick and Dacono police departments provide toys, warm winter clothing and gifts for children in the Tri-Town area who may not otherwise have a gift during the holiday season. Starting each fall, gifts and donations come from local businesses and individuals to benefit children and families. With all the shopping complete, volunteers and local officers come together for a day of wrapping.

Firestone Scholarship Program

Started in 2005, the Firestone Scholarship Program has had the honor of partnering with area students for academic excellence and continuing professional achievement.

Any student who maintains their residency in Firestone is eligible to apply. Applicants are expected to have actively participated in extracurricular and community service related projects in Firestone and the Carbon Valley area. Firestone’s goal is to assist students that have set goals for themselves and have already shown exceptional capability in achieving them.

Scholarship awards will be used for tuition expenses at the winners’ school of choice, usually a four year college or trade school.

Firestone Special Olympics Softball Tournament

The Town of Firestone is excited to bring the Firestone Special Olympics Softball Tournament back to our community in 2013. This tournament will feature softball teams from the Special Olympics Colorado Northeast Area. This day-long event allowed for an athletic competition for children and
adults with intellectual disabilities.

The mission of Special Olympics Colorado is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. 

The Town of Firestone is continuing this annual event with regional attraction to support approximately 350 Special Olympic athletes and 150 coaches in their sporting endeavors.
